My family’s favorite spot in Soquel is the Land of the Medicine Buddha — a retreat and practice center located in a lush redwood forest grove with a beautiful stream. With 108 acres of redwoods, meadows, and hiking trails, the center is dedicated to preserving the tradition of Tibetan Mahayana Buddhism. This peaceful sanctuary is named after the Medicine Buddha, a figure in Buddhism known as the supreme healer, symbolizing the potential for healing and awakening inherent in every individual. The Land of the Medicine Buddha provides a unique space for contemplation and connection with nature and it was the first place I took my two boys hiking. It serves as a testament to the rich diversity and inclusivity of the Soquel community.

Soquel is also home to a vibrant dining scene with an array of restaurants serving up everything from locally sourced Californian cuisine to global fare. The community highly values education, boasting excellent schools that make it a sought-after area for families.
